How to Hot Brew Tea: A Step-by-Step Guide

Whether you’re a seasoned tea drinker or just starting your journey, mastering the hot brew method allows you to fully appreciate the rich aromas, layered flavours, and calming warmth that high-quality tea offers.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through a step-by-step hot brewing process designed to help you get the most out of your tea—complete with tips on steeping times, water temperature, and the ideal tools to enhance your experience.

For a richer, more delightful flavor, brew your tea using a porcelain, clay, or Yixing teapot—these materials help preserve heat and enhance the aroma.

  1. Warm your teapot and cups with boiling water.
  2. Tea to water ratio: 1:50. This ratio is a bit strong and allows for 7-8 steeps, but adjust to your taste.

Steeping Instructions:

  • First brew: Steep for about 50 seconds, then pour out the tea.
  • Second brew: Steep for about 40 seconds.
  • Third brew: Steep for about 50 seconds.
  • For each additional brew, increase the steeping time by 20 seconds.

You can re-steep the leaves more than 10 times, depending on your taste. Keep the water temperature between 95-100°C. Using boiling water helps to bring out the aroma and flavor of the high mountain tea. Enjoy!

Tip: Use slightly acidic water, with mineral water being the best option. For the highest quality, use water with a pH of 6.5.
