The father’s tea

凹富后  Āo Fù Hòu

Āo Fù Hòu is the name of a place: a sunken hollow behind the mountain, encircled by ridges, where moisture pools and fragrance gathers. The original mother tree grew there. The tea that came from it smelled so clearly of gardenia that it earned a second name, Huáng Zhī Xiāng, Yellow Gardenia, after its aroma. One name for where it comes from. One name for what it gives. This tea carries both.

The father planted it in the position that most closely mirrors its homeland. Yanwu answers Āo Fù Hòu across the distance.

TASTING NOTES

Aroma  Soft, restrained sweetness. intense floral, perfumed, lightly roasted. herbal, rich, bold.

Taste  Generous and complete. Mature gardenia florals, polished sweetness. A sense of density from the first sip.

Body  Full, dense. Juicy, lightly astringent.

Finish  Strong, clean, lasting. Aftertaste of intense floral, honeyed fig, baked fruit.

ON THE SLOPE

The father planted his Yellow Gardenia in a position that follows the same logic as its namesake: below the junction of two mountain faces, where spring water runs downhill and humidity lingers. Moss covers the trees. Underneath the gardenia fragrance, a faint breath of wet stone and moss gives the tea a coolness specific to this slope.

SPRING 26 - SEASON 1 RELEASE

Harvested spring 2025. Charcoal-roasted. Carefully stored and intentionally rested for one year letting the charcoal mellow, flavours meld together, resulting in a deeper, more rounded taste.
