Design

Sumo wrestler figures in striped belts, each in a different pose: stomping (shiko), crouching at the start line (shikiri), yawning (akubi), napping (hirune), and sitting cross-legged like a stablemaster (agura, with a blue belt). Designed by Masato Yamamoto and painted by hand by craftspeople, so every piece has a slightly different expression. Ceramic Japan is a design-led maker based in Seto, Aichi, working with Japanese designers since 1973.
